Dirk Nowitzki becomes oldest NBA player to score 40 in the last 13 years

Dirk Nowitzki scored a season-high 40 points leading the Dallas Mavericks to a 132-120 overtime win over the Portland Trail Blazers.

Nowitzki's 20th career 40-point game was his first since Jan. 11, 2014, becoming the oldest player to score 40 points in a game since Karl Malone (39) delivered 40 on 3/12/03.

Only three players had scored 40 points in a game at age 37 or older — Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Michael Jordan, and Karl Malone.
