Pittsburgh guard Josh Newkirk out 4-6 months after surgery

Pittsburgh sophomore guard Josh Newkirk underwent left knee surgery on Wednesday but should be ready in time for the 2015-16 season.

Coach Jamie Dixon says the surgery repaired the lateral meniscus and a microfracture in the knee. Newkirk will need four to six months to recover. He averaged 5.9 points, 2.7 assists and 1.3 rebounds in 34 games for the Panthers last season.
