It was a rare occurrence for Jim Sann, the Nets’ advance scout, to be home for a weekend, and to be able to come to practice at the team’s New Jersey facility Sunday morning.
That occurrence also happened to save Sann’s life. After he collapsed shortly before practice Sunday, the team’s medical staff — led by athletic trainer Tim Walsh — performed CPR and revived him after he had suffered a mild heart attack that led to cardiac arrest and left him lying on the court not breathing and without a pulse.
“Nine times out of 10, I was going to be somewhere else,” Sann said in a phone interview Tuesday while resting comfortably in a northern New Jersey hospital. “So, nine times out of 10, it was going to be end of story."
