Based on his versatility, shooting and the fact that he's only 24, the Mavericks intend to offer a maximum contract to Golden State restricted free agent Harrison Barnes, a source said.
The Mavericks, who have been shut out so far in free agency, have a huge hole at small forward, Barnes' primary position, after the departure of Chandler Parsons to Memphis.
Barnes is a 6-8, former North Carolina standout who averaged 11.7 points, 4.9 rebounds and shot .383 from 3-point range last season.
