SDSU's Shrigley out for season with torn ACL

San Diego State’s fourth-year junior Matt Shrigley tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee playing basketball at a local fitness center, had reconstructive surgery Tuesday and is expected to miss most or all of the season, family and school officials confirmed.

For elite athletes, the typical recovery from ACL surgery is upwards of eight months.

Because he redshirted his first year at SDSU for developmental purposes (and not due to injury), Shrigley likely would not qualify for a medical waiver and an extra year of collegiate eligibility the way NCAA rules currently read – leaving him with whatever he can salvage from this season plus 2016-17.
