The Mavericks signed Wesley Matthews, coming off a ruptured Achilles in his left leg, for four years on Thursday. The total for his contract rose when DeAndre Jordan reneged on his deal, which opened up more cash under the Mavericks’ salary cap.
Matthews will earn about $70 million over the life of the contract. The first season is worth $16 million.
While the Mavericks have said Matthews is making a speedy recovery from the Achilles injury suffered March 5 in a game against Dallas, there is no real reason for him to rush back to action.
