Paul Pierce has officially opted out of his contract with the Washington Wizards and will become a free agent for the second straight year on July 1.
Wizards General Manager Ernie Grunfeld confirmed Pierce’s decision on Saturday.
The 17-year veteran bypassed a $5.5 million player option but could still return to Washington for a second run with the Wizards.
