The Toronto Raptors' DeMar DeRozan and the Oklahoma City Thunder's Russell Westbrook today were named the NBA Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Month, respectively, for games played in April.
DeRozan averaged an East-best 24.1 points per game for the month and added 4.9 assists and 3.7 rebounds. He shot 49.2 percent from the field, including a 14-of-25 performance during a 38-point effort in a 117-116 overtime loss to the Boston Celtics on April 4.
Westbrook won the West award for the third consecutive month, averaging an NBA-high 32.5 points, 8.1 assists (third in the conference) and 8.0 rebounds (tops among West guards). The Thunder All-Star recorded two triple-doubles, raising his league-leading total to 11, and he scored 36 or more points four times in eight games.
Other nominees for NBA Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Month were Boston's Isaiah Thomas, Brooklyn's Brook Lopez, Chicago's Pau Gasol, Golden State's Stephen Curry, Indiana's C.J. Miles, the Los Angeles Clippers' DeAndre Jordan and Chris Paul, New Orleans' Anthony Davis and San Antonio's Kawhi Leonard.
