The Detroit Pistons claimed veteran power forward Shawne Williams off of waivers Tuesday, filling their open roster spot and compensating for the loss of Jonas Jerebko in trade last week.
Williams has been used as a combination forward but will play exclusively as a stretch-four here, Pistons coach Stan Van Gundy said.
Williams, 29, is in his seventh NBA season and ninth as a professional. He was released Sunday by the New Orleans Pelicans, who acquired him from Miami as part of a three-team trade Thursday.
