Free agent forward Josh Smith, who will clear waivers this afternoon, has decided to sign with the Rockets, two individuals with knowledge of the decision said on Wednesday.
Smith, who was waived by the Detroit Pistons on Monday, has been a target for the Rockets for several years. They had tried to sign him as a free agent in 2013, but could not work out the sign-and-trade deal it would have taken after signing Dwight Howard.
A 6-9 power forward, Smith will sign for the Rockets $2.077 million bi-annual exception, according to an individual familiar with the agreement.
