Jimmy Butler calmly knocked down two free throws to help the Bulls weather another absence from Derrick Rose in a 106-105 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Saturday night.
Butler scored 24 points on 6-for-12 shooting in his season debut and Pau Gasol added 29 points and six rebounds for the Bulls, who missed Rose with sprained ankles.
Kevin Martin scored 33 points and hit a 3-pointer for a 105-104 lead with 2.9 seconds to play. Ricky Rubio tied a career high with 17 assists.

Joe Johnson scored 15 of his 34 points in the final eight minutes and Lionel Hollins beat the Pistons for the 10th time in 11 tries as the Brooklyn Nets pulled away to win 102-90.
The Pistons (0-3) got 18 points and 11 rebounds from Greg Monroe, who was making his season debut after a two-game suspension for a drunk-driving arrest, but shot 1 for 17 on 3-pointers.
Kevin Garnett added 18 points and 14 rebounds for the Nets (1-1), while Deron Williams scored 15.

Pacers 92 Hawks 102
Jeff Teague scored 25 points, Al Horford added 20 and the Hawks held off the depleted Indiana Pacers 102-92 on Saturday night.
Indiana closed to 95-92 when Donald Sloan was fouled in the corner by Horford and knocked down all three free throws with 1:13 left. But Teague answered with a jumper, Sloan missed on a drive, and Teague made a pair of free throws with 26.6 seconds left to clinch the victory.
Chris Copeland scored 21 points for the Pacers, who traveled to Atlanta without injured players David West, George Hill and C.J. Watson.

Starting the third quarter in place of Paul Pierce, Otto Porter scored 19 of his career-high 21 points in the second half of the Wizards' win over the Milwaukee Bucks.
Nene added 22 points, and Marcin Gortat had 20 points as Washington's frontcourt size overwhelmed the speed of the youthful Bucks.
Brandon Knight scored 24 points and Jerryd Bayless had 20 for the Bucks, who never led and committed 28 turnovers.
