The Pistons want Stan Van Gundy to take control of their basketball operations and become head coach.
According to an NBA source, the two sides have been talking for a couple of weeks and Van Gundy and the Pistons "are very close to a deal," which could be consummated in the next 48 hours.
If it happens, Van Gundy would join Doc Rivers (Clippers) and Gregg Popovich (Spurs) as the only current coaches to have total control in terms of personnel.
Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports, citing league sources, reported the deal is for five years and $35 million.
