The Spurs swapped point guard Nando De Colo for Toronto small forward Austin Daye just before Thursday’s 2 p.m. trade deadline, a modest deal that typified what was largely an uneventful day throughout the NBA.
Buried behind a backlog of point guards that included Tony Parker, Cory Joseph and Patty Mills, De Colo was never able to establish himself after joining the Spurs before the 2012-13 season.
The 6-11, 200-pound Daye has had similar struggles since entering the NBA as the 15th pick of the 2009 draft. The Spurs are his fourth team after averaging 5.4 points in 245 appearances with Detroit, Memphis and the Raptors.
