Pistons veteran guard Chauncey Billups will have knee surgery to repair his right meniscus, sources told The Detroit News on Wednesday.
Billups, 37, has been in and out of the lineup since early in the season, usually held out of back-to-back games to preserve his health. This injury isn’t thought to be season-ending or career-threatening.
Billups signed a two-year, $5 million deal (2014-15 is a team option) this offseason to return to the Pistons, a franchise that gave him a shot in 2002 to lead a team. He has appeared in 19 games this season, averaging 3.8 points and 2.2 assists, shooting a career-low 30 percent from the field and 29 percent from 3-point range.
