Danny Ainge says Celtics has made Rondo extension offer

Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge said he has discussed a contract extension with point guard Rajon Rondo but was unable to get one done.

Rondo, who just recently returned to action after missing almost a year with a knee injury, is under contract through next season. He signed a five-year extension in 2009 for $55 million and is due to make $12.9 million in 2014-15.

"We did talk to Rondo about extending him,” Ainge said on the radio show, “but that’s all part of the negotiation that will happen again this summer and most likely the summer after. Really, it’s not that Rondo doesn’t want to accept an extension, as much as it’s just not financially smart for him to accept it right now."
