Gigi Datome appears in line for larger role with Pistons

Luigi Datome entered Monday night’s 115-92 victory over the Cavaliers before the other frontcourt bench players and had his best game as a Piston – 13 points on 6-for-13 shooting in 17 minutes.

It’s hard to read coach Maurice Cheeks, but he sounded like he is getting ready to show fans more of the Italian import.

After laughing when asked about Datome, he said: “(Luigi) is more than a shooter. I think we all think he is just a guy that can spread the floor and make threes. I think he’s a little tougher than we think and he will get better with more time on the floor where he can defend guys and get used to playing NBA players.”
