After injuring the ankle Friday at Atlanta, Jose Calderon had said he wanted to play against the Timberwolves, but the starting point guard sat out Saturday’s game against Minnesota.
Calderon had an MRI exam Saturday that showed nothing beyond the bruise. But rather than try to play at less than 100 percent, Calderon sat out after getting pregame treatment. He originally was listed as a game-time decision and is now day-to-day.
Rookie Gal Mekel started in Calderon’s place, with fellow rookie Shane Larkin backing up Mekel.
