Carmelo Anthony buys Puerto Rican soccer team
After much speculation, Carmelo Anthony announced Thursday that he is now the owner of Puerto Rico FC of the North American Soccer League.
"My passion for soccer has always been there," Anthony told ESPN FC. "I just always kept it to myself and among my circle. Going to games, sneaking into games and just watching and being around the sport over the years."
Puerto Rico FC was disbanded in 2012 because of ownership and fiscal issues. Under Anthony's ownership, the team will play its first match in fall 2016.
