Russell Westbrook, LeBron James named Players of the Month
The Cleveland Cavaliers' LeBron James and the Oklahoma City Thunder's Russell Westbrook were named Wednesday the Kia NBA Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Month, respectively, for games played in February.
James led the conference in scoring (24.4 ppg) and was second in assists (7.3 apg) as the Cavaliers went 8-3 in February (8-2 with James in the lineup). He posted five double-doubles and scored at least 20 points in six games, including a season-high 42 points in a 110-99 win over the Golden State Warriors on Feb. 26.
Westbrook averaged 31.2 points, 9.1 rebounds and 10.3 assists as the Thunder went 9-3 in February. He joined Oscar Robertson as the only players in NBA history to put up a 31-9-10 line for a calendar month (minimum 10 games played). Westbrook capped the month by becoming the first player to record three consecutive triple-doubles since James in March 2009.
Other nominees for Kia NBA Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Month were Chicago's Pau Gasol, Cleveland's Kyrie Irving, Detroit's Greg Monroe, Golden State's Stephen Curry, Houston's James Harden, the Los Angeles Clippers' DeAndre Jordan and Chris Paul, Orlando's Nikola Vucevic, and Portland's LaMarcus Aldridge and Damian Lillard.
