Nick Young needs surgery, out 6-8 weeks

Lakers guard Nick Young suffered a complete tear of the radial collateral ligament in his right thumb during practice and could be sidelined for the start of the regular season.

Young's agent, Mark Bartelstein, told ESPN.com that he expects the injury to sideline the veteran for six to eight weeks.

Young suffered the injury while guarding Kobe Bryant during practice Thursday. He underwent an MRI exam Friday that revealed the tear.
