Klay Thompson put up a 37-point scoring barrage for the ages in the third period and led to a 126-101 victory over Sacramento at Oracle Arena.
While setting the NBA’s all-time scoring mark for a single quarter, Thompson went 13-for-13 from the field and 9-of-9 from three-point range.
The fans started chanting “All-Star” each time Thompson touched the ball in the fourth quarter as he finished with a career-high 52 points, needing only 25 field-goal attempts and 32 minutes to reach the milestone.
Thompson’s 37-point quarter surpassed George Gervin’s 33-point mark set in 1978 and tied by Carmelo Anthony in 2008. Thompson’s nine third-quarter three-pointers beat Michael Redd’s record of eight set in 2002 and matched by Joe Johnson in 2013.
