Sixers sign Robert Covington, waive Chris Johnson

The Philadelphia 76ers announced today the team has signed free agent forward Robert Covington.

Covington, who was the first overall pick in the 2014 NBA Development League Draft by the Grand Rapids Drive, is the fifth call-up of the 2014-15 D-League season.

As a rookie last season, Covington saw action in seven games for the Houston Rockets while spending most of his time with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers of the D-League.

To make room for Covington, the Sixers waived Chris Johnson. Johnson had played for the Sixers in nine games with two starts. He averaged 6 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1 steals in 20 minutes of action.
