Kyrie Irving had 23 points in 28 minutes, Tristan Thompson had 17 points and 11 rebounds and LeBron James had 12 points while taking just six shots in the Cavs’ first loss of the preseason.
They have now played five preseason games, but Irving, Kevin Love and James haven’t played together since the opener two weeks ago.
Chandler Parsons and Jameer Nelson each scored 19 points and Dirk Nowitzki had 16 points and nine rebounds for the Mavericks (2-2).

Rookie Jabari Parker had 21 points and 11 rebounds, O.J. Mayo scored 19 points and the Milwaukee Bucks beat the Minnesota Timberwolves on Friday night.
Andrew Wiggins finished with 10 points and six rebounds. Gorgui Dieng led Minnesota with 16 points.
Trail Blazers 121 Maccabi Haifa 74
Robin Lopez had 13 points and seven rebounds and the Portland Trail Blazers beat Maccabi Haifa of Israel 121-74.
Brody Angley, who played at Santa Clara, led the Greens with 18 points and Jeff Allen, who played at Virginia Tech, added 14 points.
Grizzlies 112 Flamengo 72
Marc Gasol scored 15 points and Tony Allen added 14 to lead the Memphis Grizzlies to a 112-72 preseason victory over Brazil's Flamengo.
The Grizzlies (2-3) also got 13 points from Quincy Pondexter and 12 from Courtney Lee in handing Flamengo the worst loss of its exhibition tour. Marcelinho Machado led Flamengo with 17 points.
