The Grizzlies have extended a training-camp invitation to 7-foot center Hassan Whiteside.
The former Sacramento Kings second-round pick signed a non-guaranteed deal and will be among five players competing for one available roster spot when training camp begins Sept. 30 in San Diego.
Memphis has 14 players on the roster with guaranteed deals. The NBA maximum is 15. Whiteside, taken 33rd overall out of Marshall in 2010, last played in China. He finished the season averaging 29.6 points.
