As expected, Minnesota waived guard J.J. Barea just before the roster deadline Monday, so the Dallas Mavericks and Barea now will sweat out the 48 hours he must wait to clear waivers.
For any team to claim Barea off the waiver wire, they would have to have available salary-cap space or a trade-exception to accommodate his $4.5-million salary.
The Mavericks, according to numerous sources, are hoping to sign Barea when he clears waivers on Wednesday.
