Deron Williams cleared waivers and has confirmed his intent to join the Cavs for the remainder of the season, according to a source with direct knowledge of the arrangement.
Williams, who was waived Thursday by the Dallas Mavericks and is the backup point guard the Cavs have coveted for some time, is expected to sign Sunday or Monday.
There were no takers on the waiver wire for Williams and what's left of his $9 million contract, though it is believed Williams' powerful agent, Jeff Schwartz, warned interested parties not to claim his client -- who wanted to join the Cavs.
