Memphis declines $9.4 million option on Lance Stephenson

The Grizzlies declined to pick up a $9.4 million team option on guard Lance Stephenson for the 2016-17 season, a source confirmed.

Stephenson will become an unrestricted free agent on Friday. Teams can negotiate with players Friday and sign contracts beginning July 7.

Declining his option allows the Griz to move toward acquiring $25-30 million in cap space to pursue free agents.
