Philadelphia 76ers' Sam Hinkie steps down as GM

After three seasons, Sam Hinkie has stepped down from his post as general manager and president of basketball operations of the Philadelphia 76ers.

Sixers managing general partner Josh Harris has confirmed Hinkie's sudden departure in a prepared statement.

Hinkie addressed the Sixers' ownership group Wednesday in a 13-page letter.

"Given all the changes to our organization, I no longer have the confidence that I can make good decisions on behalf of investors in the Sixers -- you," he wrote. "So I should step down. And I have."
